Linda Evangelista starring the new ad campaign of Moschino or Mc Donald’s?
We saw pieces from the fall 2014 show on editors, bloggers and celebrities just days after they walked the runway in Milan this past February, and for his first ad campaign for Moschino, he went for something downright iconic: A black and white portrait of Linda Evangelista shot by Steven Meisel.
While the campaign is much more subdued than we expected for his fast food and junk culture-inspired collection, we enjoy the fact that the pieces are displayed in an entirely new light. The quilted “M” chain bag looks classic in black and white — less campy than it would if its McDonald’s-like red and yellow palette were captured in color. Since Moschino’s heyday was in the ’80s and early ’90s, choosing one of the era’s biggest supermodels seems fitting.
I’m more than happy to see Linda Evangelista starring this print campaign. After watching the show, I was disappointed with the copy of the Mc Donald’s image. The idea is characteristic of the brand, but yet I don’t see much creativity on copying another brand’s logo, corporate colors and employees uniforms. However, the fact that the of the pictures of Steven Meisel are black and white, plus the poses of such an amazing model, makes this advertising campaign much beautiful than the collection per se: Now you see a poster where fashion is something different, but yet you can recognize Moschino.
